The year 2012 is here. What are we going to do?

It is all the talk these days of this being Earth's "Last year"

We are asking a different type of question in this 3 week series, then you may think.
Instead of looking at all the buzz of when the calender will end, lets look at what we CAN do this year...

What are we going to do this year?

Will our lived look the same as last year?

Will we be making resolutions that we won't keep past February?

Have we set Goals that are unrealistic

Are the goals we are setting about us or are we looking towards God and His plan for our lived

"What are WE going to do?"

Keeping God in the forefront of our goals and letting him help us along the way will make 2012...not the end of the world but a whole new world with Jesus Christ

So ask yourself "What am I going to do... with GOD'S help?"

The Class of 2011 are closing one book in their lives but opening another to their future. This Sunday will be acknowledging their accomplishments in front of the entire congregation. As I look at these young adults, I can still remember back when I first meet them. Where they have come from to where they are now has been an important Journey for each of them. I am blessed to have had each of them to be a part of the Gravity Ministry but am excited to see who they will become in the future.

Many of you said when you see this Happy Yellow face you think of the Wal-mart Rollback Guy. Well you would be correct if this one helped you beat low prices on your favorite items but this one represents something else. This one is finding the Secret to a Joy-filled life. OK, well to some it's not as good as getting those really low roll-back prices, but this one won't be temporary like most weekly sales.

A Joy-Filled Life is what we are all striving for right? Well some have found out the secret are are continuing their joy filled life. While others get Joy-Filled for a small time and then loose it until something "Good" happens Again. Our Human Nature always gets in the way of looking at worldly things to make us happy when The Joy that is already inside of us is waiting to be let out.

In this Series, we will be training our minds and thoughts away from our Human Nature and Toward what God has for us. Just like any other sport "Practice will make Perfect". Each week you will receive your devotional as a way to "exercise" your mind and thoughts to constantly have thoughts that will Continue you toward the Life that God has laid out for you. As with any Training regiment you will need a Coach. That is where Coach Keith will come in. He is here to Train your thought "Muscles" to think of the promises God has for you, to not let a day go by without "working" them out toward the Goal of Unleashing the Powerful Joy-filled Life God has built inside of you.

Our first week will start January 9th 2011 with our big Pep Rally Kickoff. Games, Snacks, and a hint of how this season will shape up for both teams. You don't want to miss this!

Made To Make a Difference

We have begun our new "Christmas" Series. It is not a traditional series for this time of the year but Nothing is Traditional with the Gravity Youth. This Past week we looked at Our generation...That is the Generation that are teens (your age) right now. We looked at different stories of teens thinking outside the box, praying to God for guidance, then putting those thoughts into action.

For the next three weeks we will look at Poverty as a Priority, Making it not only the people that it influences THEIR concern, but OURS as well. We will also look at Blasting the Walls that surround us on a daily basis, that stops us from connecting with "different" people, that we may never be able to come into contact with otherwise. We will end the series by learning about doing things to help OTHERS, not because WE want to be recognized...Or in other words Doing good Quietly. This final week is the finale of the series, but also the most important. Max Lucado says "Hypocrisy is when we do good things in order to be seen by people, when we try to make a theatre out of good works, when we do good things hoping people will notice us instead of noticing God". This is the focus we must always have when doing things for others...To make sure God is in control and that God is getting the Glory.

Remember that we will be having the bible study every Wednesday at 7 p.m. Starting this Wednesday December 1st. We will be skipping the Dec. 22ND Bible study to be elves for the Christmas Dinner but will resume our final study the next Wednesday (December 29Th). This time will be for digging deeper into this series but also start preparing for the upcoming projects God has on each and every one of our Hearts.

So lets Get ready to MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Thanks Giving Preparations

As we all prepare for our thanksgiving dinners with our families, we also must look at helping others with this same task. That is why we are going to the Sharp center the day before thanksgiving to help with the preparations of their dinner that they will be serving the following day.

What: Helping Prepare Food and materials for Thanks Giving Dinner
Where: The Sharp Learning Center (Across from the Y in Covington)
When: Wednesday November 24Th at 7 P.m.
Who: Gravity Youth and Journey Adults
Why: To Give up your time to help those in need

The sharp Learning Center is Preparing many and many dinners for families in the community for the day of thanksgiving. It is the least we can do to help them prepare for this big day by peeling potatoes, chopping vegetables, and be willing to help with whatever else they will need.

I encourage each of you to give up just a few hours of your time to show the support that Gravity has for our community. I hope to see everyone there.

Thanks by Giving

This time of year we are looking forward to our time we have with our families, playing football in the yard, the smell of the turkey that’s been in the oven since the night before, and having a big feast with all the fixings. But its this time of year that we must realize that with all of our things going on that someone out there does not have the same.

As We go through the next few weeks of November leading up to the Day of Thanksgiving, We wont only be focusing on what we ourselves are (or should be) thankful for but also how to Bless someone else with that same Love that we have received through Christ.

How can we as the Youth, that we are, reach out to someone? Giving warm clothes, Helping out with a food drive, Fixing meals to feed the Hungary, or just talking with them one on one. All of these things only skim the top of the pudding container. It is up to us to get out there and do something and do it with all the strength of God pushing behind us.

The Merge

What do you get when Gravity Merges with The Point? Point of Gravity? (isn’t that a Band?) Gravity’s Point? Point at Gravity? Graint? No defiantly none of that…What you get is two awesome youth groups coming together as one Mega group.

The word Merge in the Dictionary means to “Combine into one”. So that’s what we are going to do become one just as the church is suppose to be. We are all striving towards the same goal so why not act like it? As we bring these two similar but different Youth Groups together we are showing others that we are unified as one.

East Ridge and Journey Church are coming together for one Sunday (October 31st) to worship, learn more about God, and Fellowship together as ONE.

The Point (East ridge's Youth service) starts at 10:45 A.m. I know Gravity students you will have to rise up out of bed a little earlier then usual but trust me it is going to be worth it.

We will be focusing on the importance of missions whether over seas or in your backyard. Missions is a key part of what Jesus told His disciples (Us) to do. There will be a few Missionary’s speaking from Honduras and the awesome things they do there, as well as a video focusing on what WE can do as students.
Mathew 25 Sums it up best by saying “ For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.

That is the Motto for the month of July for The Gravity Student Ministry. We must let God take control of us and our decisions. For the month of July we will not be meeting. This last month of Summer will be spent finishing up spending long nights up watching movies with friends, spending all day at the pool, and spending time with our families. These Four weeks will let us work on things and work on serving others in our church, community and world. I know this is going to bum a lot of you out because we will not be meeting with your awesome Youth Pastor, but I am still going to be around getting other things ready and resting up…

Because on July 16th we will be having our GFN (Gravity Fellowship Night) “Last days of Summer Lock-IN” . So Bring your Friends and Get some Sleep because we will be up all night.

One Month To live

The countdown has officially started. Beginning on May 16th 2010 the Gravity Youth group has 30 days to live. With the next 6 week series we must believe that this is true. We are living our lives out with passion, strength and a true thought of what would happen if we only had thirty days left. Living in the dash (between your birth and death date) , Living passionately, loving completely, learn humbly,leave boldly, and living with no regrets are the topics we will focus on in the next few weeks.

We are brought here to earth for a purpose. we must make those goals but also live them out today. we never know when we will be taken from this earth. it is the time we have now that matters most. get out there and do something about it.

The clock is ticking and with each passing day an X crosses it out, never able to be replaced. It is what we do today that determines what tomorrow will bring.

Family Matters

Without each and every person in the family doing their part and full filling their responsibilities on a daily basis the family wont come together in the way that God intended it to be. As we go through this series we will look at the different people and things that make up a family, how we should be to the other members of the family and how God has taken us into his arms, Loved us and adopted us into his awesome family. We will depart from the church around 3 p.m. after we pack up the cars and have a small meeting. Giant Easter Bunnies Laying Brightly Colored Eggs

This Week is Resurection Sunday (Easter Sunday). So we will be downstairs for Worship and service. Remember this day is not only about Giant easter Bunnies and hunting the bunny's Eggs? When did Bunnys lay eggs. Anyways, just remember this is the day that Jesus was resurected (after 3 days) to wash away our sin. I know we get caught up in all the dressing up and such. Take this day to be with your family and rejoice with them that Jesus is King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and shows that with him anything can happen. You are in store for a very awesome service with Gravity's fomer Leader, Chad. He will be speaking about this and go over a few things that you may not already know about. Have a good week.

Well last week we met downstairs for worship…I Decided at the last minute to stay downstairs and listen to what Chad is teaching about. Me and Stephen (Plus Killian) snuck upstairs to doing a little spring cleaning so if you had anything behind the info. center or in the back please let me know. This week we ARE starting the series so be there or be square. I will be announcing the week that we will be going to camp as well as the date of our SmooschBall Super Bowl. Also don't forget that we will be downstairs for worship till the end of the second song. Also we will not be having Gravity on Easter Sunday April 12th. See everyone Sunday.

Head,Shoulder,Knees, and toes…

This week our new series starts. We will be looking at how the Body of Christ is the church and how each part of the body is us. We will look at how we all (as each piece) work together to make it whole. One thing to tell everyone for the next few weeks we will be meeting downstairs for worship. Do not come upstairs report to your designated area in the sanctuary. Do not bother anyone and you will be told when you are dismissed. Bring those playbooks and get ready for a new Series and a new start for your points. See ya Sunday!

Next Piece of the Uniforms are in...

Im sorry to see our series on Gifts end but we are not totall done with it. This week you will be geting the next piece of your uniform (lets just hope you are not in third). You will have one more chance as a team to earn a few more points in a few games we will be competing in. We will also be voteing on the name of or band from the two choices that I have chosen. One Week left of the Gift Series…

Well it has been an exciting ride going through all the “Gifts…For Life”. This week is our last week with our Gift series, this also means its your last chance to earn your points for your next piece of “uniform”. And I do not know about all of you but I do know third place is in for a surprise. All I have to say is you should try your hardest to get into 1st and 2nd. Remember to bring your Playbooks. And leaders remember to get your poems ready for Sunday, I’m ready fro anything. Also Leader we will have a short meeting right after service. See everyone Sunday. Come prepared to rock out with our new band “The unknown Band name that was formally packing peanuts but now want to change their name but do not know what to change to” Yeah that going to be hard to put on a record label. It’s GGGGifty…

Once again this week we will be skimming the surface of our PUDDING (Gifts). We are still on temp. gifts that were put into place when the church first started but now we do not need any longer. I know what your thinking

“Why are we learning about them then?” Well We still need to learn about the foundation of the beginning of the church for us to be able to build upon it. I know i will see everyone on Sunday with their playbooks in hand. the reason i know this is everyone was out Monday due to the weather so that was a profound time to work on them. and remember you only have this week and next week to get your points in for this series and getting your piece of your “Uniform”, so get them in.

Gifts…not of the ordinary

Last week we talked about Permanent Gifts that each of us have inside of us. We can use these gifts in all that we do in our everyday lives. This we we look at temporary gifts. These Gifts God has given and are used for a specific time. I will go into more detail so don’t be scared if you are confused. We are regrouping our student band “Packing Peanuts”, so if you play a instrument, sing, or just can clap your hands to a beat, or know someone that does. Contact me or one of your team leaders so we can get our band back at rocking out on Sunday mornings. Don't forget those Playbooks. You only have a couple more weeks to get all your points in for your uniforms for this series (pants). You don’t want your dummy to go around pants less. We are a “come as you are” church but that just crossing the line. See everyone Sunday.

Last week was a huge success for our Four year anniversary at Passion. (Im still trying to find out Gravity's anniversary). We will be back upstairs this week continueing on our series on "Gifts...For Life". We will focus on Permanent Private gifts and what each one is a a run down on their descriptions. As everyone knows (that was at church last week) we will be loosing the Johnson's. As Gravity is Concerned two of the members of "Packing Peanuts" will be exiting. I know everyone is sad at the loss but this is where God is taking them and their family but our loss is definitely another Church's gain. As for the "Packing Peanuts", not to worry there are plans in the making for them. This Sunday will be their last Sunday leading out worship (unless they want to come back for special appearances every once in awhile) so they are going out with a bang playing a few songs never played on the Gravity Warehouse stage EVER!....So come out and Join us as we say "Cya on the Flip side" to two of our members of Gravity. And learn as to what Gifts God has Given us.

Anniversary Sunday

Just a reminder we will not be having Gravity on Sunday...I know everyone is very sad...but one good thing to look at is you have one more week if you didn't finish your Devo. from this week.

Hope everyone will join us for this special day and to stay after to have some soup, salad, and desserts (You thought i was going to say Bread sticks, but we aren't Olive Garden). Giving out the Gifts

We have Started off our series on gifts if you were not there last week. So you best be reading up and doing some Devo. to catch back up. I was giving out gifts this past week...all three teams got there first pieces of "uniform". Good job to all teams but just remember that all points have gotten erased so its any ones ballgame on getting the next piece. hope everyone has a good week and We will all see everyone bright and early on Sunday. BRING THOSE PLAYBOOKS! with completed Devos.'s. And would like to remind everyone our worship band "Packing Peanuts" are back this week. So come and check them out, you may learn something.

We are done with our first series for our Smooschball season and everyhting is on its way. We have been learning about teamwork and what the bible says to us (as a church family). This week we will continue to Look in the bible about everyones Gifts/Spiritual Gifts, finding what ours are, and how we can use them to fullfill what God wants from each of us.

The "American SideKick" Everyone Wants on thier side

We will Be Continuing to look for my side kick on "American SideKick". So dont forget to vote. This week will be "Theme Songs". All three teams have turned in their points and they are tallied up. New Year, New Everything!

Welcome All to the New Gravity Website. Here you will receive all up and coming events as well as what we are learning about if you happened to miss a Sunday (I will need a Doctors excuse) Just kidding. I hope everyone will enjoy it and enjoy this new year. We have been Learning about Teamwork and how we should not always think of what is best for us but what is best for the overall goal of the team. I hope this week you are working on helping others in need and putting your wants aside. We will be learning about Division this Sunday (not talking about the long divsion we all learned in the 3rd grade). We will also see our leaders competing for a spot of my new side kick on "American Sidekick". Last week we saw a lot of Talents from everyone.Leaders if you have not shown your talent yet you will this week.
